![]() Makes the city feel even bigger, and because it's not their backyard/familiar city, a little more foreign and dangerous. Then, when the players actually 'hit' Waterdeep, the bottom drops out and they realize the scale of the operational differences between Waterdeep and Saltmarsh. I'm mixing GoS with Call From the Deep - so players will start with nonsense around Saltmarsh, then some negotiations with Neverwinter to go check out the crash site, and eventually defense missions in 2-3 of the big cities (which could be their first 'peak' at Waterdeep or they could venture down sooner due to tied-to-backstory reasons. I prefer designing my adventures around things 'scaling up'. Neverwinter is a lot more 'locked down', doesn't have much pirate thematic, so I like having Saltmarsh as the nearest small-scale 'hive of scum and villainy'. My personal 2 cents is Saltmarsh fits better by Neverwinter for the same reasons you state - if Saltmarsh was down next to Waterdeep, it could never compete. does anyone know of any semi clean area maps i could use? one more thing is that mintarn is closer to waterdeep than neverwinter, so i could easily set the styes adventure somewhere near or on mintarn, as well as establish the sea princes there.īut anyway, the maps i try to find of the waterdeep/daggerford area are always super low quality, or cluttered to all hell. ![]() floshin estate could replace burle since its apparently a stronghold owned by elves. Theres also the misty forest that could replace the drowned forest, the trollbark forest could replace the dreadwood, and a little forest nearby waterdeep that could be silverstand. (yes i know the mere of dead men is bigger, but it just fits better IMO since it literally has "lizard" in the name) plus, theres literally a place called "the lizard marshes" nearby daggerford that would work perfectly for the lizardmen's home. ![]() daggerford also works as a good replacement for seaton. i personally think having GoS take place near waterdeep makes more sense thematically, since its all about pirates and smugglers.
