![]() And at least for me, the game's campaign is only 1% (even if giant) of the total neverwinter nights experience, the game shines even in multiplayer with persistent worlds.Įdit: And I came up with "purist vs new" talk, no precious idiot please. ![]() In the end the decision is yours.įor me convenience is priceless and of course you can see this masterpiece receive a new life with updates even if they take a long time. Yes, the remaster version is worth it, now, if for you price is an impediment or some more specific reason, there it is something very subjective. With very rare exceptions, most are trolls who do this, are doing a service or at the very least want to see the person waste time on something that is not worth it. Sorry, who still recommends the old version, at least is a troll. It's simple and you don't have to think too much. It is not appropriate here to make text with 1000 lines to justify. It is not just graphics, it is convenience, it is to install and play, besides that it has been receiving support. Only the work that the person will have to run on the current PCs, for me is already more than reason to buy the remaster version. I have seen certain users saying that it is better to just play the old diomond version. It's still kind of a work in progress, with the promise of things to come, very little has been done for UI improvements, and some promises of graphical enhancement and improvement on performance have already been cancelled, so lower your expectations accordingly. Still, seen from the outside, progress on the EE is slow and enhancements mostly not visible to the average player at first sight, or they appear very minor. It's also worth it if you're interested in the new DLCs/premium modules like Tyrants of the Moonsea and Darkness Over Daggerford (free versions for NWN Diamond exist, but the purchaseable versions are expanded and improved with new music, voiceovers, use of new creature models and tileset etc., and they are not compatible with Diamond). The EE also introduced NWN Sync, which downloads required files for PWs in-game. And if you're into multiplayer, especially Persistant Worlds, it is a must, since not only does the EE make it easier again to find different servers, just like in Diamond before the GameSpy servers went down, but many PWs also upgraded to the EE and are not compatible to Diamond anymore. I like it, though those may be very minor things to the average player.īut I would say if you're interested in more than the official content, it's worth getting the EE at a discount because moving forward, there will be community content that's EE only (some already is). tga files put into a patch hak, which allows you to use a custom patch file and individual haks for overrides instead of just dumping all the files into the override folder (which makes it easier to distinguish and toggle on or off different overrides). With regards to mods, I've noticed that you can now have up to 255 different heads displayed per race during character creation, which was not possible in Diamond (you already had 255 slots for heads but not all would show up during character creation). ![]() ![]() And there is a keyhole effect that allows you to always see your character, even when it would usually be obscured by walls or objects, but it's not perfect, plus many players dislike the look of it and toggle it off. by default the colors are set to be a little more vibrant compared to the rather washed out colors in Diamond. There are a couple of graphical effects you can toggle off or on in the EE's options menu, and e.g. All videos now play in fullscreen (they didn't always for me with the Diamond edition on modern OS, but your experience might be different), but they don't fill the whole screen, in higher resolutions they are tiny and there are big black borders around them on all sides. ![]() In single player mode, I haven't noticed that much difference between Diamond and the EE (playing on 1680*1050). You can download a community patch to remove these effects Beamdog themselves don't seem to have done anything about it, at least it still happened to me recently. For example, on some rigs, the glitter effects on pixies and faerie dragons can cause the whole game to lag terribly. The EE introduced quite a few new bugs and performance issues.
